Professor María Pilar Civeira, new director of the University's CIMA

Professor María Pilar Civeira has been appointed director of research center Médica Aplicada (CIMA) to replace Jesús M. Hernández.

The CIMA is since 2002 the medical research center of the University of Navarra, where about 300 researchers and technicians develop lines of translationalresearch , whose results are applicable to the improvement of patient care at the University of Navarra and other hospitals. The new director of CIMA is a professor at the University of La Coruña, former dean of the School of Medicine of the University of Navarra, and specialist of the department of Internal Medicine of the Clínica Universidad de Navarra. With a degree in Medicine (1975) from the University of Zaragoza and a PhD (1983) from the University of Navarra, with award Extraordinary doctorate, María Pilar Civeira completed the specialization program in Internal Medicine at the University of Barcelona (1983).

For his part, Dr. Jesús San Miguel, currently director physician of the Clinic and director of Clinical and Translational Medicine of the University of Navarra, will remain on the board Board of Directors of CIMA as director scientific. Full Professor of Hematology and one of the world experts in this specialization program, Jesús San Miguel is the author of more than 700 articles in international journals and as researcher has participated in 60 projects of research.

Javier Mata has been named the new General Manager of CIMA. Since October 2011, he has held the position of director of the Research Management Service of the University of Navarra and, previously, he was director of the People Service of the university center.

The former director of CIMA, Jesús Hernández, will start a new professional stage as consultant in development, transfer and innovation in biomedicine. CIMA Dr. Javier Díez, Julen Oyarzabal and Ignacio López-Goñi, who until now were members of the board , will continue with their teaching and research work. José María Arévalo, former General Manager, has been appointed director of the University. Purchansing Service of the University.

CIMAresearch to cure

The research constitutes one of the strategic axes of the University of Navarra, with special emphasis on the development of translational lines of research , whose results are applicable to the improvement of health care. In this mission statement the CIMA occupies a primordial place.

The CIMA and the Clinic work in a coordinated way, with a model oriented to minimize the time elapsed between the research on the laboratory and its application to the patient. At present, the CIMA and the Clinic have 14 multidisciplinary translational research teams. The aim of these teams is to promote patient-centered biomedical research , coordinate the agents involved in research projects and optimize the opportunities offered by the University environment.
