SIMURAI will be presented at the 38th congress , to be held June 3–5, 2026, at IFEMA Madrid, where CEIT Hispavista Labs will be at Booth 33 in the Water Technology Exhibition Hall

SIMURAI’s hybrid architecture, which combines mechanistic modeling and artificial intelligence, enables operators to anticipate incidents, reduce energy costs, and improve regulatory compliance—with results already proven in real-world environments.

San Sebastián, May 26, 2026. The CEIT technology center CEIT Hispavista Labs, the research and development unit of group , officially present SIMURAI, a digital twin solution for wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) that is already operational at four plants managed by NILSA and at the Arazuri WWTP, managed by the Pamplona Regional Council. The platform will be presented to the entire sector at the 38th congress , which the association Urban Water association is holding from June 3 to 5 at the IFEMA Madrid Municipal Palace.

SIMURAI builds a virtual replica of each wastewater treatment plant, tailored to its actual processes. Unlike conventional monitoring systems, it does not merely show what is happening; it anticipates what might happen and offers specific operational recommendations. The solution has proven its capabilities in a real-world production environment. The core topic in its hybrid architecture, which integrates the mechanistic models reference letter water engineering—developed by CEIT group and Waste group , with over four decades of experience in the sector—with artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms provided by Hispavista Labs.

Make better decisions, not faster ones

The water sector is facing increasing pressure: stricter regulations, rising energy costs, and public demand for transparency in resource management . In this context, the teams that operate wastewater treatment plants need tools to help them make better decisions, not just react more quickly.

SIMURAI addresses this need with a approach : it automatically connects to the plant’s SCADA systems and sensors, processes data real time, simulates operational scenarios, and generates clear recommendations for the operations team. Key benefits include the ability to anticipate incidents before they occur, energy cost reductions tailored to actual operations, automatic validation of sensor reliability, and greater control over effluent compliance.

Validated at five wastewater treatment plants in Navarre as part of the PERTE del Agua initiative

SIMURAI is now operational at five wastewater treatment plants in Navarre—Arazuri, Tafalla, Estella, Tudela, and Bajo Ebro—as framework contract framework development, implementation, and maintenance of digital twins awarded by NILSA (Navarre Local Infrastructure Agency), a project falls under the PERTE for the Digitalization of the Water Cycle. The platform has been integrated with each plant’s SCADA systems, continuously processing data and generating a dynamic digital twin that reflects the status of each facility. This experience has allowed the technology to be validated under real operating conditions and has enabled the refinement of both mechanistic models and artificial intelligence algorithms.

With this solid operational foundation, CEIT Hispavista Labs are now reaching out to public water consortia and private companies that operate wastewater treatment plants throughout Spain, offering a proven solution that is ready to scale.

Applied Science and Product Engineering

SIMURAI was founded through a partnership between two organizations with complementary profiles, both based in San Sebastián. CEIT, a non-profit technology center founded by the University of Navarra in 1982 and a member of the BRTA (Basque Research and Technology Alliance), contributes its knowledge modeling, simulation, and optimization of water treatment processes, with over 40 years of experience in research in environmental engineering. For its part, Hispavista Labs, a research and development unit affiliated with the network for Science, Technology, and Innovation (RVCTI), contributes its experience of more than 25 years in development digital platforms, data integration, and applied artificial intelligence.

The partnership the two organizations makes it possible to offer a product that combines the scientific rigor of mechanistic modeling with the scalability and analytical capabilities of AI systems—something that would be difficult for a single organization to achieve on its own.

Attendance at the 38th congress

CEIT Hispavista Labs will be exhibiting at the Water Technology Exhibition during congress 38th congress (booth 33), which will take place from June 3 to 5, 2026, at IFEMA Madrid, hosted by Canal de Isabel II. During the three-day event, attendees will be able to learn firsthand how SIMURAI works, watch live demonstrations of the platform, and schedule personalized meetings with the technical and sales teams.

Appointments can be reserve through the product website: simurai.es
