Ceit ,a technology center, coordinates the EUSKOMAT project , an initiative focused on the development and manufacturing of advanced functional materials capable of addressing some of the major technological and strategic challenges facing today’s industry.

The " project " will conduct research at design and development on materials with controlled magnetic properties and free of rare earth elements, reinforced aluminum alloys for weight-reduction applications, conductive materials with high wear resistance, and materials with active functionality. In addition, it will analyze their integration into multi-material systems compatible with various industrial sectors.

The initiative was launched with the goal to develop new technological capabilities that will enable the creation of high- added value e solutions for emerging applications, thereby contributing to industrial competitiveness and reducing dependence on critical raw materials.

EUSKOMAT is structured into four phases that cover the entire technology development process.

A comprehensive " approach ": from " design " to validation

EUSKOMAT has been designed as a progressive “ project ” that supports the “ development ” of new materials, from the identification of industrial needs to their validation in real-world applications.

The starting point will be an initial phase of consultation with companies from various sectors, which will allow us to identify specific challenges and needs in order to guide development efforts toward solutions with clear potential for transfer to industry.

There will be a second phase focused on defining the new materials, working on their composition, structure, and functionalities to address specific requirements , such as weight reduction, conductivity, wear resistance, or advanced magnetic properties.

In the following stages, the developed materials will be produced using various manufacturing and processing technologies, including melt spinning, strip casting, powder atomization, targeted heat treatments, additive manufacturing, and casting. These processes will make it possible to evaluate the behavior and performance of each solution from the earliest stages.

Finally, the most promising developments will be integrated and validated in representative application environments, with the goal ( goal ) of verifying their feasibility and their potential to address the technological challenges facing various industrial sectors.

The initiative is funded by the Basque Government’s Elkartek Program, through SPRI, and—together with Ceit —brings together Azterlan, Tecnalia, Tekniker, Lortek, Mondragon Unibertsitatea, EHU, and EIPC.
