An international visit to advance new lines of research

This is not the first time that researcher Luis Alberiko, fromthe group Navarra Center for International Development (NCID) at theInstitute for Culture and Society Institute of the University of Navarra (ICS), visit has traveled to the English capital to carry out research research; after all, he completed his thesis doctoral studies at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). On this occasion, he is conducting a three-month research stay , which will conclude on September 30, at Brunel University London. During this time, working closely with Guglielmo Maria Caporale—a professor at that university with whom he is co-authoring a paper—the visit has served to open up new lines of research on current issues that include, as Alberiko notes, “the influence of the new global geopolitical status on the Economics and finance, as well as other topics related to global warming, natural disasters, earthquakes, etc.” In addition, he notes that “these visits allow us to sit down and study the development of new theoretical models in the field of econometrics,”as Alberiko explains.

Academically speaking, the stay has been very productive and, as on previous occasions, has met expectations: “We’re taking advantage of these months without ‘ teaching ’ to plan in detail the research areas that interest us most,” notes researcher.

Brunel University, in addition to having an exceptional campus , is a prestigious university with a strong commitment to research. Alberiko positively highlights that British universities maintain “their defense of freedoms based on respect for opposing views; attend to seminars and even talks by any topic has always been result deeply rewarding and exemplary to me.”

On staff, he also acknowledges that he appreciates “the flexibility and freedom it offers when it comes to organizing one’s own work. You can work at any time of day or night and on any day of the year, and for people like me—who are a bit chaotic—it’s always a financial aid.”

Although his stay takes place during months when there are no teaching events, conferences, seminars, or workshops, researcher acknowledges that “we are actively working on a solid issue of articles related to remittances from emigrants to Latin America and Africa, on financial stability in crisis situations, on ocean warming and its impact on the climate, on the persistence and periodicity of seismic activity, on climate-related changes in tourism patterns, etc., all within the context of time series, which is my main line of research.”
