CNN signature agreement the University to train future journalists

Students will participate in an immersive experience that combines AI training with simulations of high-pressure professional situations, such as conflicts or disasters

The School of Communication at the University of Navarra has signed a partnership agreement CNN Academy, the educational arm of the U.S. network CNN, to training future journalists through an international program. 

This immersive experience combines digital training, artificial intelligence, and high-level professional simulations, offering a training program that complements their regular classes. Students Degree will participate in a month-long online preparation course consisting of 13 sessions at the CNN Academy Hub; an intensive in-person course with network professionals at the campus ; and a week-long professional simulation designed to practice news coverage of conflict situations and humanitarian disasters. 

In addition, faculty members will receive training and participate in sessions with journalists from the network, with the goal sharing methodologies, simulation exercises, and best practices in the use of artificial intelligence applied to journalism.

The University, CNN's sole partner in Spain

This partnership is part of the Faculty’s strategic commitment to journalism over the past year, which has involved redesigning the Degree Study program and strengtheninginternship and ties with international organizations. The Faculty has thus become the international network’s sole partner in Spain.

Charo Sádaba, dean of the School of Communication, emphasizes that this agreement the commitment to training that is closely aligned with the professional world. “Our students will learn directly from international journalists how to work under high pressure, integrate artificial intelligence into news reporting, and uphold ethical standards in complex environments.”

For his part, Sebastian Laver, director CNN Academy, notes that the partnership between CNN Academy and the University of Navarra reflects its goal investing in the next generation of journalists and storytellers. “By partnering with the University of Navarra, we are building a meaningful bridge between academic excellence and the realities of a essay , at a time when trustworthy journalism has never been more important.”

Training program

1. Pre-training (online, 1 month)
Students will complete 13 courses taught by CNN journalists on digital storytelling, fact-checking, artificial intelligence applied to journalism, ethics, digital writing, mobile journalism, and Open Source Intelligence. This phase lays the instructions and conceptual instructions for the program.

2. In-person Bootcamp (1 week)
During an intensive week on campus, CNN journalists and trainers will lead hands-on workshops, masterclasses, and practical exercises on mobile audiovisual production, scriptwriting, editing, fact-checking, and the use of generative AI tools in content creation.

3. Professional Simulation (1 week)
Participants will work in teams on a “breaking news” scenario designed specifically for the University of Navarra. They will need to define theirpublishing house approach , cover press conferences, conduct interviews, and produce a complete audiovisual piece under pressure similar to that of an essay .
