The European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) has awarded Dr. Marta Ferrer, dean of the School of Medicine and allergist of the Clínica Universidad de NavarraThe Clinical Fellowship Award, an annual award that recognizes her previous scientific record, contributions and partnership with the advancement of the specialization program. In addition, this award entails being part of a committee of European experts who advise on relevant issues affecting Allergology and Immunology on the continent.

Dr. Ferrer considers that "this distinction is the result of the joint work carried out in the department of Allergology of the Clinic and the quality of care and science developed among all colleagues and with other research teams in recent years around chronic urticaria, angioedema and other types of allergy".

Chronic urticaria is a disease without a cure whose origin is unknown, which affects 300,000 people in Spain and which has important consequences both physically - due to the intense itching that interferes with sleep and daily activities - and psychologically - as it is one of the diseases that most affects quality of life. As Dr. Ferrer explains, the expectations of many people who could not receive treatment have changed a lot in recent years: "Thanks to the research we have been carrying out in our group and in collaboration with other teams, numerous drugs and molecules have been developed that have enabled us to learn more about this disease and, at present, to control the symptoms".

Dr. Marta Ferrer has a degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Zaragoza. After completing her specialization program at the Clínica Universidad de Navarra, she completed her training at the State University of New York. Subsequently, she worked as a researcher at the Medical University of South Carolina before joining the Clinic. In addition, she is Dean of the School of Medicine of the University of Navarra since 2022, External Examiner of the Allergy MSc Program at Imperial College London and an academic at the Harvard Macy Institute of the Harvard University School of Medicine.
