Alberto Colmenero and Miguel Oroz, 4th year students of the Degree in Telecommunication Systems Engineeringhave published an article based on the work developed in the Tecnun eRacing team. This was presented at the XLVI conference on Automatics held in Cartagena from 3 to 4 September.
The work of both students, as they explain, "includes the development of a proprietary simulator by the Software and Driverless department ".
This achievement, which they worked on during the 2024-25 course, represents an important step in the development the team's autonomous driving, since it has a tool that is tailor-made for its single-seater.
The project began when they identified that commercial platforms did not fit the specific needs of the vehicle. Thus, they chose to design from scratch a software that allows them to customize the simulation conditions, test algorithms and sensors, and implement an artificial intelligence system in the virtual environment.
This solution, which only a few Formula Student teams in Europe have managed to implement, allows to fully customize simulation conditions and advance autonomous development without relying on track testing.
