46.8% of Spanish universities have their equality plan in force and 45.5% of these specifically include the training in equality in the programs of training of the staff professor researcher (PDI) and of the staff Administration and Services (PAS). This is indicated by a technical report prepared by Mª Cruz Díaz de Terán, coordinator of the network WINN of the Institute for Culture and Society (ICS) of the University of Navarra and of the online course training in equality.

The work 'Competences, identity and training of the university academic staff from a gender perspective: a question of law ' has analyzed of the 50 Spanish public universities in terms of equality plans for the .' has analyzed the status of the 50 Spanish public universities with regard to the training plans on equality for the staff employee .

"The choice of actions aimed at the PDI and PAS seeks to assess the weight of training in equality in those responsible for educating future generations on these issues," says Professor Díaz de Terán.

From agreement with the study, with regard to the universities that have their equality plan expired, 24.5% were prescribed between 2019 and 2020. The author explains that, possibly, for several of them "the health emergency caused by the pandemic and the overload of work that it has meant for the university management may have caused the delay in the development of new plans".

According to research, the 47 equality plans of Spanish public universities include actions of training on equality. Twenty-nine.8% contain a specific axis dedicated to it and 70% have one or more specific objectives. Likewise, 12.7% include training on equality as a cross-cutting goal .

The expert, a professor of Theory of Law, indicates that 34% of universities still have their first equality plan, although "if the provisions of the Royal Decree regulating equality plans and their registration were applied to this area, the period of validity could not exceed four years". In his opinion, this would encourage academic centers to draw up new plans.

"It is to be expected that the progressive introduction of the training in equality and the gender perspective in university activities (teaching, research and management) will produce a multiplier effect that will have an impact on society as a whole," concludes the coordinator of the network WINN.

The report is part of the project 'network Ibero-American Innovation and training to strengthen the impact of women in innovation ecosystems', of the Ibero-American Program of Science and Technology for the development (CYTED Program).
