''Everywhere I looked I saw only happy, smiling people.''
Rodrigo Sanchez, a medical student at the University of Navarra, tells his experience at the conference World Youth Days.
"I went to the World Youth conference as a volunteer with the Belagua. high school Mayor Belagua. Only from my headquarters (Tower 2) we were about 25 volunteers and other residents went as pilgrims. It was an unforgettable experience because of the good fortune of being able to participate and help, as well as because of all the people I met," says Rodrigo Sánchez, a medical student at the University of Navarra, recalling how he experienced WYD in the front row.
"My group and I had to help in a concert of a Canadian band, rehearse the Stations of the Cross, help set up the stage in Cibeles, release the dove balloons in Alcalá (pictured) and in Cuatro Vientos we were helping in the Eucharistic tents. Due to the heat there were several lipotimias and as the SAMUR was very saturated I also took advantage of the fact that I am a medical student to help and assist people until the medical staff arrived".
Rodrigo Sanchez was able to meet during these days several pilgrims who, like him, lived WYD with fervor. "We met people from the Philippines and Bahrain. We became friends right away, even though we were only together for a couple of hours. At the end of the event they hugged us and thanked us for everything we had prepared in Madrid". "WYD has been an experience that 'leaves a lasting impression'. Basically, I took one conclusion from the experience: wherever I looked I only saw happy people, smiling people.
