Architects from Chile, Mexico, Argentina, Ecuador, Peru, A Coruña and Bilbao are currently participating in Bilbao in a workshop to design a proposal in the new urban area that will be generated in the centre of the Bilbao capital after the burying of the high-speed train lines (AVE).

The Workshop takes place at the framework of the Master in Architectural Theory and design (MtDA) of the University of Navarra, led by the architect and Dean of the Cooper Union in New York, Nader Tehrani, together with the Biscayan professors and architects Luis Suárez Mansilla and Andrés Tabera Roldán.

The arrival of the High Speed Train in Bilbao will entail the modification of the current railway route that runs on the surface through the city centre up to Abando station. The burying of the new pathway, together with the construction of a new intermodal station, will free up an area whose crucial planning for the future of the city is the subject of the workshop on which the students of the MtDA in Bilbao are working under the direction of the architect Nader Tehrani.

The area to be planned foresees the combination of residential fabric -nearly 1,000 dwellings- commercial uses, offices, municipal facilities and green and pedestrian areas. The estuary, the real backbone of metropolitan Bilbao, will witness this ambitious urban regeneration operation. Luis Suárez Mansilla, director of the Master, underlines that the "new urban space of 90,000 square metres will also serve to improve the connection between the neighbourhoods of San Francisco and Indautxu".

On 27 September at 12.30 p.m. a lecture to position by Nader Tehrani is planned in Pamplona, at the School of Architecture University of Navarra, which will be broadcast on the academic centre's website.
