Jorge Tarancón Díez (IES Pedro de Ursúa) and Alberto Pezonaga (high school Liceo Monjardín), both second year students, have won a gold medal and a silver medal, respectively, in the national phase of the Biology Olympiad 2016, held in Vigo. high school diplomahave won a gold medal and a silver medal, respectively, in the national phase of the Biology Olympiad 2016, held in Vigo.

The test brings together the students with the best results in the regional phase -organized at the University of Navarra- and serves to qualify them for the international and Ibero-American phases. The first, to be held in Hanoi (Vietnam) from July 17 to 24, will be attended by the four gold medalists. This is the case of Jorge Tarancón, who assures that the test has a fairly high level: "The support and classes given to us by the professor of the School of Sciences Mariano Larraz were very important, since these Olympics require a certain preparation that also serves as an incentive to learn and compete, to meet young people with the same concerns, and to enjoy a city as beautiful as Vigo".

Regarding his university future, he says that this competition has helped him to focus on Biomedical Engineering, which combines his two "passions" and which he hopes to study at the School of Engineering of the University of Navarra, in San Sebastian.

Alberto Pezonaga, for his part, won one of the four Silver medals that qualify for the Ibero-American competition, which will take place in Brazil in the second week of September 2016. In addition, the student of high school Liceo Monjardín also won the Spanish Philosophical Olympiad, held in Oviedo.

As in previous years, it is foreseen that those classified for both the International and Ibero-American Olympiads will have a special training at the research center Applied Medicine (CIMA) of the University of Navarra to prepare for both competitions.
