Javier Ocaña receives ex aequo the Bibeau award from the Pontifical Biblical Institute of Rome

The professor of the School of Theology Javier Ocaña has obtained ex aequo the Bibeau award , granted by the Pontifical Biblical Institute of Rome to the best doctoral thesis . The work, graduate Credit and Debt in the Old Testament in the Light of Ancient Near Eastern Legal Documentswas defended last June and received the grade summa cum laude.

Javier Ocaña Gámiz is a priest of the diocese of Almería, where he has held various pastoral positions, including pastor and President of the Conciliar seminar (where he was also a professor). After completing both the licentiate degree and the doctorate in Sacred Scripture at the Pontifical Biblical Institute, he has joined the faculty of our School as professor of Hebrew and Pentateuch and Historical Books. Javier Ocaña also holds a PhD in Law from the University of Navarra, where he obtained the highest grade with a thesis on the effectiveness against third parties of real and credit rights in the Spanish Civil Law . Likewise, it was at our University where he obtained a Degree in Theology, after graduate in Law from the University of Almeria. As part of his solid training, he has a semester of programs of study at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, in the framework of a joint program with the Pontifical Biblical Institute.

His research focuses on the Old Testament, with special attention to the legal institutions of Israel in the cultural context of the ancient Near East. He is currently preparing the publication of a monograph resulting from his doctoral work .
