87 high school students from Navarre are participating this week in the regional phases of the Biology and Mathematics Olympiads. Chemistry

The tests, with students from 24 schools and institutes, will be held at the School of Sciences of the University of Navarra.

The School of Sciences of the University of Navarra will host this week the regional phases of the international olympiads of Biology and Chemistry, which will take place on Wednesday, March 2 and Thursday, March 3, respectively.

A total of 87 students will take part in them. high school diploma 70 in the Biology Olympiad and 17 in Chemistry- from 24 schools and institutes of the region.

In the case of the Biology competition , this regional phase will be used to select the three students who will participate in the national phase, to be held in Granada from March 31 to April 3. Then, the winners of the first four places will compete in the international phase, which will be held in Taiwan in July 2011. The four runners-up will go to the Ibero-American International Olympiad, to be held in Costa Rica in September.

The test, organized by the association Spanish Biology Olympiad (OBE), will consist of 75 questions subject test with only one correct answer and one question of development, belonging to the subject of first and second of high school diploma in different areas: Biochemistry , Evolution and Diversity, Cytology, Metabolism, Histology, Physiology and Anatomy Animal, Reproduction and Genetics, and Microbiology and Immunity.

Olympiad and International Year
In the case of the Olympiad of Chemistry, the test -which this year coincides with the celebration of the International Year of the Chemistry- will open the doors to the national phase to the three best students, who will attend the quotation in Valencia from April 29 to May 1. There they will compete for a place in the international phase, which will be held in Ankara (Turkey), from July 9 to 18, and will also be attended by the top four. The four runners-up, on the other hand, will be able to attend to the XVI Ibero-American Olympiad of Chemistry in Teresinas (Brazil), from September 16 to 24.

Those who qualify for the international phase of Biology will also receive an additional training for one week at the research center Applied Medicine (CIMA) and at the School of Sciences of the University of Navarra.
