The " group " Religion and Society joins the School of Humanities and Social Sciences

The " group " on Religion and Society has joined the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, after operating for 16 years as part of the Institute for Culture and Society (ICS). Since its creation in 2010, the group has established an interdisciplinary research focused on the study of religion as a fundamental element in the formation of social and political coexistence.

Co-directed by Professor Montserrat Herrero and Professor Jaume Aurell, the team analyzes the role that religion plays in modern and contemporary societies, with a particular focus on its presence in the public sphere and its relationship to concepts such as freedom, secularization, tolerance, and democracy.

Over the years, the scientific activity of the Institute for the Study of Freedom and Religion ( group ) has centered on two lines of research —Political Theology and Spheres of Freedom and Religion—within which various projects have been developed, funded by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the European Union’s Marie Curie program, and various private foundations.

group research is currently seeking to address the question of the specificity of what we call “human life” in the context of the growing dominance of Artificial Intelligence. To undertake this task, it has just received grants from the MICIU (“Narratives of a Sustainable Modernity. Subjectivity and Its Connections Beyond the Canon”) and another from PIUNA (“Body and Care for the Humanization of Environments and Services”). Another project at is titled “ : The Resistance of the Flesh: Redefining the Human in the Age of Large Language Models.” Consistent with its interdisciplinary approach, the “ ” by philosophers and theologians—which seeks to interpret the meaning of an incarnate spirit and develop a carnal hermeneutics—will be complemented by the “ ” by historians and political philosophers, who, through long-standing practices, will explore specific aspects of incarnate existence, such as rituals, liturgies, and festivals. development degree scroll work work

Its interdisciplinary nature is one of the distinctive features of the group. Its members come from fields such as philosophy, history, theology, political science, and international relations. It is composed of researchers from the University of Navarra and has a broad network of national and international collaborators. Throughout its history, RELSOC’s “ framework ” has supervised 17 doctoral thesis ; published 25 books, 96 articles, and 80 book chapters; carried out competitive research projects research ; and organized international conferences and seminars.
