The 24 students of the subject "Spanish Contemporary Art", which is taught in the Degree in History Degree in History and in the double Degrees History and Journalism and International Relations and History, have made a curricular trip to Madrid on March 28th and 29th, to analyze live the works studied in class.

In the first workshop, they visited the Museo Nacional del Prado, in a tour that ranged from the 2nd and 3rd of May and the Black Paintings of Goya, to the landscapes of Regoyos and Beruete, without forgetting the painters of the Academicism and Romanticism, the great compositions of the painters of history and the Valencian beaches of Sorolla.

The following day, the group moved to the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía to make contact with the avant-garde movements of the first half of the 20th century, such as cubism, expressionism and surrealism, through artists such as Picasso, Juan Gris, María Blanchard, Gutiérrez Solana, Dalí, Magritte, Óscar Domínguez and Ángeles Santos, who were joined by painters of social denunciation such as José María López Mezquita and Ramón Casas.

"This activity allows to put in internship an active methodology in which the explanation of the works falls on the students themselves, after the preparation work in the classroom prior to the trip," explains Professor Javier Azanza, head of the subject. It also "allows to approach each piece, not in a decontextualized way, but fully integrated into the exhibition speech of both museums, so different from each other". Professor Azanza also underlined his gratitude to the students "for their total involvement in the project".

After the trip, there was a common discussion in the classroom in which each group made a general evaluation of the content that had corresponded to them, and then a dialogue was established between students and teacher that contributed to fill in and enrich the knowledge of the subject
