Professors José Manuel Giménez Amaya and Martín Montoya, researchers at group 'Ciencia Razón y Fe' (CRYF) of the University of Navarra, have published the book Encubrimiento y verdad: algunos rasgos diagnósticos de la sociedad actual.

Professor Giménez Amaya assures that the purpose of this publication has been "to transmit a vision on the effects of modernity and postmodernity in our environment". The document gathers some of the ideas that were worked on in the first seminar of the group CRYF held five years ago, whose central topic was the degree scroll of the book that today sees the light.

In this sense, he highlights two major negative aspects: on the one hand, the power that technique and technology contain when they are not anthropologically and ethically adapted to man's purpose; and on the other hand, the primacy of negative freedom over positive freedom.

Professor Montoya, for his part, recalls the implicit call of the publication: "It is necessary to philosophise. It is an obligation to stop and think deeply, to face the search for truth in a committedway".

The paper also discusses the attempt to understand why there has been a turning away from God as a mass phenomenon. It explains that there has been a dissolution of the subject, a Withdrawal to truth and a farewell to history, three premises on which Christianity is intelligible.

Finally, the authors conclude with a hopeful conclusion and list three actions core topic that Christians must undertake in the face of this fact and which represent a real challenge:

  1. Transmitting the faith in a culture that has been emptied of it. There is a Christian culture that has been robbed of Christianity itself, but still exists.
  2. Thinking faith: explaining why it is reasonable to believe what we believe. The CRYF, in this sense, is invaluable financial aid .
  3. To evangelise in today's society is also to try to "make space" for God through anthropological and ethical reflection.
