Ten students from the Master's Degree of design and management Building Environmental and (MDGAE) at the School of Architecture University have spent two weeks at Cardiff University as part of their training at design environmental and construction.

During these days the students have had sessions with researchers and doctoral students, learning first-hand about the work being developed at Cardiff University. In addition, students have attended classes with the goal to deepen their understanding of sustainability issues at the urban scale.

An important topic they worked on was the design for the use and control of natural lighting. This could be done through the Skydome, one of the few infrastructures that exist in the world. This tool is a six-meter-diameter hemisphere made up of 640 individual lamps that reproduce outdoor lighting and its effects on buildings anywhere in the world. The students used models to study the interior lighting of buildings and optimize natural light sources.

On the other hand, they made a series of visits that masterfully encompass the objectives of Master's Degree. Among the outings was the National Assembly of Wales, designed by architect Richard Rogers. Secondly, they visited the experimental Solcer House, designed and built by Professor Phil Jones and his team at School of Architecture at Cardiff University. It is a positive energy building; it not only produces the energy it consumes but also stores the surplus in batteries that supply the house when there is no solar radiation. The last visit went to the Ebbw Valley, where project "The Works", a sustainable rehabilitation on the grounds of the former steelworks, is being developed.
