Professor Javier Azanza, new member of committee Navarro de la Cultura y de las Artes

This advisory body of the Government of Navarre is made up of personalities from the region who work in different cultural and academic sectors.

Javier Azanza, Professor of Art History at the University of Navarra School of Philosophy and Letters of the University of NavarraUniversity of Navarra, has been appointed member of the committee Navarre of Culture and the Arts (CNCA), a consultative body that advises the Government of Navarra on this subject.

Professor Azanza has pointed out that he assumes this appointment "from the commitment with the Navarre society in the work of protection and dissemination of our culture and heritage, and to support and promote all those initiatives that contribute to it". He also wanted to thank the department of Culture and Sports of the Government of Navarre, "and especially its counselor Rebeca Esnaola, for the trust placed in him".

Formed by 23 personalities from different cultural and academic sectors, the committee Navarro de la Cultura y de las Artes has, among other tasks, the elaboration of programs of study and reports, the partnership in the definition and execution of cultural policy, the formulation of proposals and initiatives in this field, and the generation of discussion and knowledge in the framework of cultural policies. It also proposes the awarding of the award Príncipe de Viana de la Cultura, which recognizes the work carried out by individuals, groups and institutions in this sector.

D. in History of Art from the University of Navarra and Senior Associate Professor of the department of History, Art History and GeographyProfessor Azanza has 30 years of experience professor. He is a member of the Chair of Heritage and Art of Navarre and of the group of research TriviUN (Theater, Literature and Visual Culture of the University of Navarra) of the School of Philosophy and Letters. He is also a member of several cultural associations, among which are the Society of programs of study Historicals of Navarra (SEHN) and Eusko Ikaskuntza.

Accredited as Full Professor by the Agency for Quality Assurance of the University System of Catalonia in 2020, he also teaches postgraduate program at the universities of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Piura (Peru). He has directed and taken part in several inter-university projects with public or private funding. His research, forged in the team of the Monumental Catalog of Navarrateam, directed by Dr. María Concepción García Gainza, is oriented towards modern and contemporary art and heritage with special significance for the Navarre area.

He is the author of more than 250 publications including monographs, articles in scientific journals and collaborations in collective works. In addition, he has three six-year periods of research, and has given more than 300 lectures, both academic and informative. He has also curated five exhibitions, edited four publications and directed six doctoral thesis . He holds various positions at management and academic coordination of activities, among them the lecture series of the Museo del Prado at the University of Navarra.
