“Marriage is a state of life and a sacrament that directly affects the common good of the Church. It is everyone’s duty to defend and strengthen it.” This was stated by Professor Gerardo Núñez, godfather of the third graduating class of the Master's Degree Matrimonial Law and Canonical Procedure at the University of Navarra, held on Saturday, June 20, in the classroom of the Central Building.

In his message, he emphasized that contemporary culture—marked by individualism, the “culture of the provisional, provisionaland the legal redefinition of the family—has weakened the goal marriage, reducing it to a subjective opinion: “Today we live under what Caffarra called the ‘tyranny of artificiality,’ in which laws attempt to redefine the family according to the ideology of the moment, disregarding its anthropological foundation.” He also emphasized that the mistaken idea that “a united and stable family is an ideal that only a minority can achieve” is becoming increasingly widespread.

In light of this context, Professor Núñez noted that the Church proposes to strengthen family ministry through information, support, and mediation services that help people discern marital crises and understand the moral, sacramental, and public dimensions of the marriage bond. Finally, he concluded by noting that pastoral care must focus not only on resolving failures but also on preventing them, by strengthening marriages and clearly presenting the Christian ideal as a path to fulfillment.
