Patricia Beorlegui completed theMaster's Degree of internship Advanced and management in Nursing at the School of Nursing and is currently working in the Oncology Unit of the Clínica Universidad de Navarra where she works as an advanced clinical nurse. In this interview, she tells us about her functions and work in this department.

What is your role in the Oncology Unit?
The main role of an advanced nurse clinician is to ensure an excellent professional internship . By identifying the needs that arise in the daily internship I outline areas for improvement together with the supervisors.

In Oncology at the Clinic I have several roles: The training of the professionals, either through the coordination of the specialization program Onco-hematology or developing topics for the update of care. Another function is to promote projects based on evidence, such as the review of the bibliography so that the care responds to the results that other people have registered. I also bring to the forefront the role of nursing in multidisciplinary decision making involving the patient.

What are your current goals?
Continuity of patient care. Oncology patients go through different nursing teams. To ensure continuity of care, the training of the professionals has been planned, the roles of each of the nurses have been defined and a common registry has been made, which can be accessed by all professionals.

Another goal is to develop guidelines for the different processes or problems that arise in oncology patients. This month we will start in the Day Hospital a project of research that studies the fatigue caused by cancer and its treatment. We hope that this study will have positive results in patients and that it will improve the internship care, developing a guide or protocol.

The ongoing training of all Oncology Nursing professionals is another of my goals. Last quarter we started a methodology that we financial aid to reflect on a patient's case. The topics discussed always involve any nurse, whether from the Day Hospital, enquiry or the Hospitalization Unit.

What results would you highlight from the last year?
In this first year I would highlight the creation or readjustment of action guidelines in the Service. The identification and study of patients' needs. The increase in the number of nurses knowledge with respect to the topics dealt with in training. And the promotion of research projects.
