The Nippon, Spanish and Latin American Academic Confederation (CANELA) has more than 150 members distributed among its four sections: language Literature, Thought and History, Methodology of the teaching of Spanish as a Foreign Language (ELE), and Linguistics. Every year a congress is held where members and sympathizers present their research and share the spirit that the founders of the association indicated in their motto: "Union, Science and Friendship".

The Confederation publishes annually Cuadernos CANELA, a journal cataloged in several indexes of scientific publications, which uses the system of anonymous review by experts in the same field. It is published in print and digital versions.
