"Academic excellence is not directly related to atheism, it is possible to be a good scientist and a Catholic." This was stated at the University of Navarra by Enrique Solano Márquez, PhD in Mathematical Sciences and member of the Society of Catholic Scientists. His words are framed by the seminar organized by the group 'Science, Reason and Faith' (CRYF) graduate "The Science-Faith Relationship Told to Young People".

Professor Solano points out that "a perfect fit can be established between science and faith, although sometimes the message of religion is seen as an obstacle to progress", and stressed that it is a mistake to consider that God and science are on the same plane and that they are two factors in a zero-sum equation, that is, if one adds, the other has to subtract. "test of this is astronomy, one of the sciences that most favor the rapprochement between science and faith," he said.

The researcher of the Astrobiology Center (INTA-CSIC) of Madrid emphasized the need to offer activities of training and knowledge dissemination for young people to dismantle and respond to the erroneous messages about science and faith that, for decades, have been transmitted to society. Among these messages he highlighted some such as 'a good scientist has to be an atheist', that 'religion is superstition and goes against science', or that 'everyone knows that the Church has always attacked science because it has feared losing possession of the truth'. He also raised the need to establish a reasoned argumentation and the exhibition of realities and facts.

Throughout the seminar, Professor Solano focused on transmitting the experiences he has acquired carrying out this work and affirmed that "Catholics have the obligation to take a step forward and transmit that this harmony between science and faith is possible". To this end, he proposed several things: "First of all, to show our face in our health centres. research and have the training necessary to be able to argue.  And, secondly, to make the leap into society so that students who have been trained in a high school When they get to university, they don't have to choose between their faith and science."
