On June 30 and July 1 will be held at Ciudad Real Madrid (Valdebebas, Madrid) the III International Solidarity Chess Tournament "Checkmate to Alzheimer's", organized in its third edition by the research center Applied Medicine (CIMA) of the University of Navarra and the Real Madrid Foundation. The proceeds of the tournament will go to the research of Alzheimer's disease that takes place in the CIMA and the Physical Activity Program for the elderly of the Real Madrid Foundation.
The box of honor of the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium recently hosted the presentation of the event, which was attended by Ricardo Gallego, former player and ambassador of the Real Madrid Foundation; Mariano de Pablos, director of the tournament; Julio González Ronco, director General Manager of the foundation; Javier Olave, trustee of the Foundation for Applied Medical research ; and Alberto Pérez Mediavilla, researcher of CIMA. "We are very grateful to the Real Madrid Foundation, because in this third edition it has become our great ally in the fight against Alzheimer's and, also, to spread the event in the five continents. And we do not forget all the people who individually or in different organizations are supporting us to give a boost to the research of Alzheimer's disease. Thanks to all of them, 100 prizes, medals and gift raffles will be awarded among the attendees", explains Mariano de Pablos.
The general tournament fee for registration is €40. In addition, there is a special rate of 25 € for children (born from 2002 onwards) and veterans (born in 1953 or earlier) and a 10% discount for Real Madrid members and holders of the Carnet Madridista.
Intergenerational tournamentAs last year, the event will start with an intergenerational blitz tournament between the 3 oldest and 3 youngest players. Between them, they will add up to more than 300 years of chess fondness.
The solidarity tournament has the support of partnership of Navarrese companies, such as the transport company EDSA that provides a free bus for attend. Those interested in participating can register or collaborate in the zero row through https://helpify.es/comunidades/jaque-mate-al-alzheimer/.
