Confinement is seriously affecting communication between older people living in nursing homes and their families. The people who work in the residences strive to help maintain such communication, but given the emergency status , they do not have enough time or resources to ensure that this is done with adequate frequency and quality. In addition, many of the people involved (family members, residents, nurses) do not have the necessary knowledge to operate the applications and software that today's technology allows.

In response to this status Matia Fundazioatogether with Ceit and the group MASMOVIL has launched a project of partnership with the goal to use technology to improve communication between the people living in the center and their families by improving the minimum of three weekly contacts between each person and their loved ones that had been done to date.

To make this project a reality, Ceit and group Masmóvil will make the following technical and human resources available to homes for the elderly:

• Hardware: state-of-the-art equipment (e.g. wireless routers, cell phones and tablets) so that they can be easily operated in nursing homes for both caregivers and residents.

• Software: installation of the different programs of management remote and video calls for the management of remote calls by external volunteers.

• Communications: quality fixed and mobile connection for video calls from different devices

• managementorganization of volunteers trained ad hoc and acting remotely from their homes avoiding the physical contact and therefore the possibility of contagion to support the connections between family members and residents, minimizing the intervention of the staff of the residences.

In the pilot project in the Lamourous center of Matia Fundazioa, group MASMOVIL will donate wireless routers and latest generation Samsung Galaxy A10 smartphones, as well as SIM cards with the necessary data and voice. For its part, CEIT, will be responsible for providing the appropriate software and the necessary management of the calls that will free staff from the residency program of these tasks. The center will study different scenarios and ways of operating, involving both elderly people who are mostly autonomous and those suffering from cognitive impairment and with greater dependence Degree .

goal The results and conclusions of this pilot project will be shared with those senior centers that wish to maximize its impact and to make this model replicable and extensible to third parties.
