Aligning forces and promoting common initiatives for the study of military orders during the medieval and early modern periods. This is one of the goals of the agreement Militarium Ordinum Nexus - Beyond Boundaries (MON-2B), signed by the University of Navarra, the University of Porto (Portugal), the University of Malta , the University of Castilla - La Mancha , and the Rovira i Virgili University (Tarragona). The alliance enables a network of partnership between these academic centers, which will promote exchanges and the attraction of talent.
Julia Pavón , dean of the School of Philosophy and Letters and researcher at the group ' Links, Creativity and Culture ' from the Institute for Culture and Society (ICS) of the University of Navarra, explains that this agreement responds to the need of several international groups to seek new perspectives of work for the historiographical and memoristic study of the crusades and military orders: “The agreement It allows us not only to work on the traditional political-institutional sphere but also on issues of cultural, religious, social cohesion and projection imprint and knowledge from different sources." In addition to researchers from all the signatory countries, experts from Israel, France, and the United Kingdom also collaborate.
This work in network will promote the promotion of projects research and the exchange visiting professors, researchers and students in different programs, in addition to establishing synergies to share information and materials. It will also allow cooperation in scientific, teaching and research activities. research and organize joint events, such as seminars, conferences, workshops and congresses, among other initiatives.
In this framework joint cooperation is already planned to be carried out congress on crusades and military orders quinquennial, organized by The Society for the Study of the Crusades and the Latin East (SSCLE) , which will be hosted by the University of Porto at the end of June 2026.
