On their first day, the students participated in a workshop in which different professors of the School introduced them to their university life. During her welcoming remarks, Dr. Marta Ferrer, dean of the School, reminded them of the importance of having a solid scientific and technical preparation, while at the same time working on the skills and competencies necessary to be deeply human physicians. "It is necessary that today's doctors, and especially those of the future, with all the development of technology and artificial intelligence that has been taking place in recent years, develop their ability to listen, to accompany, to look into the eyes and to understand. They must be doctors who, beyond algorithms, know how to see the person, not just their disease".

Physicians beyond mere technical expertise

Precisely, during the workshop , the humanistic training that characterizes the University of Navarra, which complements the acquisition of technical knowledge, was highlighted. Ricardo Piñero, director of the Core Curriculum Institute, encouraged students in their mission statement to contribute to solving social problems through the search for truth, dialogue and enrichment with other disciplines.

Mar Cuadrado and Leire Arbea, Vice-Deans of Students and innovation in education, offered the keys to this first year at the School and presented the Medical Education pathway and the RIM project , a portfolio that allows students to collect and reflect on their experiences and training activities throughout the Degree

New methodologies and learning styles
