20 female researchers from the BIOMA Institute feature in the CSIC's ranking of the most influential female scientists
Researchers from the BIOMA Institute of Architecture, Sciences, Pharmacy, and Nutrition, ICS, and TECNUN are among the professionals selected

133 female researchers from the University of Navarra—20 of whom are conducting their research at the Biodiversity and Environment Institute BIOMA—have been selected for the CSIC’s ranking of scientists with the greatest impact, the goal of which is to raise the profile of women researchers.
The ranking includes the 12,110 profiles on Google Scholar with the best metrics (h-index and citations) that have an assigned ORCID ( username ) for Spanish women conducting research in Spain or abroad, as well as for foreign female researchers affiliated ( membership ) with Spanish institutions.
The selected researchers are Maria Nieves Goicoechea, María Carmen Antolín, Inmaculada Pascual, Marta Fuentes, María Garnica Ochoa, and Itziar Vélaz Rivas, from the School of Science; Ana Sánchez-Ostiz and Aurora Monge from the Higher Technical School of Architecture; Ruth Breeze from the ICS; Amaya Azqueta, Adela López de Ceráin, Elena González Peñas, and Ariane Vettorazzi from the School of Pharmacy and Nutrition; and Elisabeth Viles Díez, Carmen Jaca, Josune Hernantes, Leire Labaka, Paloma Grau, Marta Ormazábal, and María Jesús Álvarez Sánchez-Arjona from the TECNUN School of Engineering.
Among its various lines of research are projects related to food security, the development of sustainable fertilizers, the upcycling of materials in the industrial sector, the resilience of rural areas, and the adaptation of crops, cities, and architecture to climate change, as well as disaster prevention and resilience, among others.
This edition includes the corresponding indicators from OpenAlex (a global, free, open- Catalog that indexes scientific publications, authors, institutions, journals, and the citations they generate).
The ranking recognizes the “research ” (multidisciplinary ) program at the BIOMA Institute, which is offered at various centers, and the “ Schools ” program at the University of Navarra. Among the fields highlighted in the “ research ” for each of these women are experimental sciences, the environment, and sustainability; engineering, the social sciences, and sustainable architecture.
