The George Washington University's Planet Forward project selected the Journalism student 's project in the category of Best Video for Social Media.

Mario Castroviejo, student of Journalism and Global Journalism at the School of Communication of the University of Navarra, has been recognized with the award for Best Video for Social Media of Storyfest 2025. It is a contest promoted by Planet Forward, a project of The George Washington University School of Media and Public Affairs, in Washington, D.C. "When I found out that I had won the award, I felt a great joy and satisfaction for all the work behind the project," confesses Mario. His project consists of demonstrating "how climate change affects one of our favorite sweets: chocolate". The topic came up "by chance" in an activity of the subject Sustainability Reporting. Faced with the challenge, he went around supermarkets as a reporter to collect testimonials from customers about the price of chocolate. It was the teacher who, some time later, encouraged him to enter the contest he has now won.
Through different formats, the students addressed pressing issues such as invasive species, emerging pollutants and equitable access to nature. Their work was selected by a jury of professional journalists, educators and environmental leaders based on originality, clarity and impact. The winners were announced during the Planet Forward 2025 Summit, The Climate Divide: New Narratives to Transform the Crisis, held at George Washington University.
From theory to practice
Mario Castroviejo was one of the winners in the eight categories. As an award, he will travel with the other winners to the Galapagos Islands to explore the biodiversity of the archipelago. During their stay, they will discover conservation methods in the face of climate and ecological change and will be accompanied by an expedition team made up of naturalists, scientists and teachers.
Planet Forward is a project of the George Washington University School of Media and Public Affairs that promotes the creation of environmental narratives among university students internationally. The goal is to reward innovative work that connects diverse audiences and drives positive change on the planet.
