The writers Ana Iris Simón, Clara Obligado and Anna Caballé will be present at the course "Ellas lo cuentan todo. Women's autobiographical writing", held at the University of Navarra from September 6 to 9. The program, which will take place in the Museum of the academic center and is part of the summer courses of the universities of Navarra, aims to show the historical process of affirmation of women in the public space from their self-representation as writers.

Directed by Professor Javier de Navascués, Full Professor of Spanish-American Literature and director of department of Philology of the University of Navarra, it will address the first manifestations of women's autobiographical writing, which emerged with European modernity from the sixteenth century onwards.

"It is then that women authors appear, aware that the things that happen to them are important and that they have to write them down," explains director of the course. The course will address how, through different genres (diary, letters, memoirs, etc.), literate women have exposed their intimacy and/or their public actions, sometimes resorting to strategies to circumvent social constrictions and at other times claiming their right of expression.

Importance of the self and of women today

Among other topics, on Wednesday, September 8, Anna Caballé, writer, professor at the University of Barcelona and an authority on the autobiographical genre, will speak on'Autobiographical Writing and Women'. On the same day Clara Obligado will present her book Una casa lejos de casa, which describes her memories in Argentina during the Dictatorship and her arrival in Spain during the Transition. On Thursday 9 will be the turn of Ana Iris Simón, who will present her first book, Feria, a work that has been a great success recently.

The course, aimed at an audience interested in literature as well as in issues of equality and the representation of women in culture, will include the participation of professors Cristina Tabernero, Concepción Martínez Pasamar, Rocío Davis, Rosalía Baena and Pilar Sáiz.

According to Professor de Navascués, this topic has been chosen for a double topicality. "The writing of the self has proliferated in recent decades, especially since the emergence of social networks. This, without forgetting the different formats and discourses with which people publish their experiences, from autofiction to blogs. On the other hand, women as topic and as protagonists are at the center of discussion today, as we all know," she explains.
