University and Passivhaus Consortium promote sustainable architecture with Edifica Awards

The competition, aimed at professionals and students of Architecture, has been presented at the headquarters of postgraduate program of the University in Madrid.

The School of Architecture of the University of Navarra, together with the Passivhaus-nZeb Consortium, has presented at the headquarters of postgraduate program in Madrid the first edition of the Edifica Awards. Edifica Awards. This competition is born thanks to the agreement of both entities to promote a conscious, healthy, sustainable and efficient construction, in line with the 2025 Strategy of the University, focused on sustainability.

The competition consists of two categories: Edifica Professional Awards and award scholarship Edifica. In the first, aimed at professionals, "will recognize innovation in different fields such as passive strategy and energy balance, circularity and sustainability and positive social impact," according to Diana Torres, manager of committee Technical Consortium Passivhaus . The award will have an endowment of 3,000 euros for each variant of this category (best new work and best refurbished work) and the winning works will be exhibited at the Edifica 2023 Fair, which will take place in September 2023 in Pamplona.

On the other hand, Paula Esparza, manager External Relations of the University's School of Architecture , highlights the importance of the academic category (award scholarship Edifica), open to 5th year Architecture students from all Spanish universities. "In this case, environmental, social and economic sustainability will be valued, and the award will be a complete scholarship to study the Double Master's Degree in Architecture and Sustainability (valued at 19,400 euros) at the University's postgraduate program headquarters in Madrid," explains Paula Esparza. In addition, the winning student will receive a diploma and will be able to participate in the Edifica 2023 Fair. 

Although the call for the award scholarship Edifica category (aimed at students) is already open, the submission period for proposals will begin on May 15 and close on June 15, 2023. The call for the Edifica Professional Awards is scheduled to open in the spring of 2023.

Carlos Naya, director of the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura, affirms that "the School will continue to promote collaborations that allow us to advance towards the achievement of sustainable, industrialized construction with excellent architecture". For his part, Manuel Medina, president of the Passivhaus Consortium, emphasizes "the importance of this agreement to strengthen among young people and professionals the importance of conscious architecture, which is good for people and for the planet".
