On March 25 was inaugurated at the high school Los Tilos in Madrid, the exhibition Piedad de la Cierva: pioneer, visionary and scientist, dedicated to one of the great pioneers of Spanish science of the twentieth century. The sample covers the life and work of this researcher, highlighting his role in the development of optical glass and refractory brick for the Navy, and his work with X.
The exhibition was inaugurated with a roundtable that brought together specialists in the history of science, physics and knowledge dissemination. Participants included Inmaculada Alva, PhD in History and researcher specialized in the figure of Piedad de la Cierva; Íñigo Pérez-Baroja Verde, Dean of the Official high school of Chemists of Madrid; and Carmen Gómez-Fayrén de las Heras, researcher at the Institute of Theoretical Physics UAM-CSIC and grandniece of the honoree. The event was moderated by Santiago Martínez, researcher at the University of Navarra, and was attended by about seventy people.
The sample recreates the research environment of the mid-twentieth century and seeks to highlight the bequest of a woman who broke barriers in a historically male field. Its main goal is to inspire new generations, especially girls and teenagers, to take an interest in science and encourage vocations in STEM fields.
In addition to visits for the general public, the exhibition includes a program of school visits, with educational materials and activities designed to awaken scientific curiosity from an early age. The visits are organized by levels (Primary, ESO and high school diploma) and require previous registration through the following e-mail: mujeryciencia@colegiolostilos.com

This traveling exhibition , of national scope, was inaugurated in November 2024 at the University of Navarra. Organized by the Center programs of study Josemaría Escrivá and financed by the Government of Navarra through the Cosmos 2024 program - aimed at promoting scientific culture and STEAM vocations - the sample now arrives in Madrid, in the heart of Vallecas, with the goal of expanding its impact and bringing the story of this exceptional scientist to an even wider public.
